HAS ENDORSED THE POLITICAL DECLARATION

 Thailand endorsed the Political Declaration on the use of explosive weapons in populated areas in January 2025. It attended the second international implementation conference on the Political Declaration in San Jose, Costa Rica in November 2025.

Statements and positions

At the UN General Assembly First Committee in 2025, Thailand expressed its support for the Political Declaration, noting that it is “rooted in the unwavering conviction that the protection of civilians must be paramount in all our disarmament and arms control efforts”. 1 As part of the Human Security Network, Thailand has also endorsed two statements addressing the risk of EWIPA at the UN Security Council Open Debate on the Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict in 2013 2 and 2014. 3 The statements called for data collection and to refrain from the use of EWIPA.
